Board of Directors

Cindy Cahalen has been at The Ormewood School since its beginning in 2006. She started out teaching the 1- and 2-year-old classes and moved into the role of director in the spring of 2008 when the founding director left. She really enjoys this role, as it allows her to spend time with all the classes, getting to know all of the children. She is originally from Massachusetts and have been living in Atlanta for the past 20 years. She has three adult children: Thomas, Coleman, and MK. Cindy also has a B.S. in Environmental Science from UMASS Amherst and has been a certified massage therapist for over 25 years. In her spare time she loves to read, garden, play pool, and hit the beach.

This is the start of Kathy Cocoran’s 9th year teaching at The Ormewood School and her 5th year teaching the Pre-K class.  She has over 20 years of experience teaching early childhood and special education in grades Pre-K through 5th grade. She lives in Decatur with her husband John and two girls; Jessa (almost 18) and Ada (16). She loves to go sailing, hiking and travel to new places!  She looks forward to a wonderful year having fun and getting messy!

Meg Harmon has lived in Atlanta for more than 15 years and her family currently lives in East Atlanta Village. She has two kids: Ali (6) and Hope (1). She currently works in Real Estate, but has always been involved with children. She’s worked at different children shelters and has served on youth boards as a mentor. She joined the Ormewood School Board in 2021 to become more involved in the community. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, cooking and going to concerts. She loves the Ormewood School environment, teachers and families. She enjoys being a part of the school board and is looking forward to continuing to be a part of the school community over the next few years when her second child attends the school.

Laurie Tufts and her husband, Winfield, live in East Atlanta Village with their two boys – Finn (6) and Monroe (4). Laurie is currently a stay-at-home parent, previously having a career in fundraising and nonprofit management. She is grateful to serve as a board member for The Ormewood School to support the families, community and neighborhoods served by the school. In her free time, Laurie can often be found in the parks and attractions of Atlanta with her boys.

Will Eck has lived in Atlanta for over 4 years and lives with his family, Kimberly and their two children Josie and Max in North Ormewood Park. Before becoming his children’s primary caretaker, Will was a small business owner and worked within the healthcare industry. Will joined the Ormewood School Board in 2023 to help contribute to the community that has helped his children grow and flourish. Will enjoys music, lifting and general nerdy activities like painting miniatures and board games. He has loved being part of the community and watching his children navigate their emotions and social interactions with the other children of the Ormewood School. He looks forward to being involved with the Board and the School as his younger child continues to attend the school. Will believes that contributing to the community by serving on the board helps to ensure that future generations can have the same experiences and opportunities that his children have had.

She brings an extensive background in education to The Ormewood School board having earned a MAT in Childhood Education and has worked as a teacher, school leader, and school improvement consultant for New York City public schools and other school districts throughout the country. When she’s not working or volunteering, you can find Lauren at a yoga class or out hunting for Atlanta’s best Americano.
